KARACHI – Funeral prayers were offered for the seven policemen killed in an attack at Orangi Town on Wednesday, local TV channel reported.
The policemen performing guard duties for an anti-polio campaign in the area, were killed in two separate firing incidents by eight unidentified gunmen at Disco Mor and Bangla Bazar.
The funeral prayers were offered at SSU Headquarters District West and were attended by the Sindh chief minister, the provincial home minister, Karachi Corps Commander, the Rangers director general, the Sindh Inspector General of police and other important personalities.
The weapon which killed seven policemen had been used 17 times before. The weapon, a 9mm pistol, was used during the time span of September 20, 2014 and September 22, 2015, an investigation report of the Orangi Town attack said.
The first attack occurred at the crowded Bangla Bazar where policemen had stopped to eat at a roadside restaurant, the report added. Two unidentified gunmen on a motorbike killed three policemen in the attack. CCTV footage of the second attack shows a police mobile moving at dead slow speed coming to a stop.
